Getting enough fiber to become healthier
We often hear about getting enough fiber in our diet and think that I will worry about that when I get old. Did you ever think that if you don't get enough fiber that you will get you old quicker?
Fiber is very important and Americans seem to almost avoid fiber and then suffer from it. It is recommended to take in about 35 grams of fiber a day while the average person only consumes 8-10 grams a day. Fiber is important for our health which often is tied to the health of our digestive system.
Dr. Strand recently wrote about The importance of fiber in our Diet in a recent newsletter. Some things like constipation, diverticular disease, lowering of cholesterol, and reducing the risk of cancer can be avoided by increasing our daily fiber intake.
The news bgins with; Dr. Dennis Burkitt, a Christian surgeon, was a missionary in Africa for over 20 years. During this time he made some amazing observations and discoveries and even had a disease named after him—Burkitt’s Lymphoma. One of the interesting stories he would tell was how he did not allow his residents to make the diagnosis of appendicitis in native Africans unless the patient spoke English. A healthy bounce
At certain times in our lives we exercise because it is fun. Then there comes a time when we exercise because we have to, either to control weight or other health related issues.
